Few people learn how to be a board member and how to lead an effective board in school. It is often through trial and error. Omit the errors and learn best practices gleaned from leading resources like BoardSource and the Standards for Excellence® Institute. This course will provide in-depth coverage of board best practices—as a whole and for individual members. You will learn roles and responsibilities including the board’s role in fundraising. The board’s legal obligations, effective board and committee structures, and key policies to have in place to ensure the highest level of ethics and transparency will also be discussed. You will leave with clarity on governance versus management and staff versus board roles and a plan for increasing the effectiveness of your board meetings. You will have the opportunity to practice what you learn through case studies.
